ABOUT THE LIVING GARDEN

The Living Garden is a small educational website created for kids ages 8–12. It connects real science about plants, seasons, and city parks to everyday experiences in gardens, playgrounds, and schoolyards.

Who We Are

Member A — Garden Page & Weather Tree

Role: Built the main Garden page and the interactive tree.

  • Designed the homepage so kids can meet the tree first.
  • Coded the tree that changes with temperature and seasons.
  • Connected the weather API.

Member B — Personal Diary & Navigation

Role: Personal Diary page and shared site layout.

  • Designed the diary for writing and saving notes.
  • Set up local storage.
  • Created shared header and footer.

Member C — Hard Facts & Beyond Garden

Role: Garden Fact Lab and NYC Parks explorer.

  • Wrote kid-friendly science content.
  • Coded quizzes.
  • Connected NYC Parks open data.

How to Use This Site

Kids can start on the Garden page to see how one tree changes with the weather. Then they can visit Hard Facts to learn the science behind it.

The Personal Diary lets them record their own observations. Beyond Garden shows how parks across NYC connect people and nature.
